ABOUT PETER

Peter is a natural scientist with 40 years experience of environmental matters at local, regional and national levels and at corporate business level, combined with extensive experience of local government. Peter is a graduate of Imperial College at Wye and the University of Guelph, and a Member of the London Business School.

Peter has advised the UK Environment Department and the agricultural, water and waste sectors as an independent consultant. Following rapid changes in environmental legislation in the 1990s Peter joined the Environmental Safety Centre at Harwell to provide environmental policy advice at corporate level within the UK Atomic Energy Authority and represented UKAEA on CBI Environment Committees. While at UKAEA/AEA Technology plc Peter also acted as a Duty Officer at the UK Chemical Emergency Centre (where he responded to the Braer tanker incident among others). He was also managing editor of the international journal 'WASTE & ENVIRONMENT TODAY' published by the UK Waste Management Information Bureau.

Serving in local government for 10 years, Peter represented Royal Wootton Bassett on town, district and county councils. He served on the change management task group merging the core functions of the five principal councils leading to the creation of the unitary Wiltshire Council in 2009 - a 1bn authority. At the new Wiltshire Council, Peter served on committees dealing with governance, audit, policing and development control among others; and chaired task groups reviewing procurement processes for major waste management, highways and transport contracts. He chaired, until 2013, Wiltshire Council's Area Board for Royal Wootton Bassett and Cricklade - responsible for promoting community safety, partnership working, neighbourhood planning and economic development within the community area.

Peter has also served on the boards of several local and regional environmental bodies. These included the Cotswold Water Park - the UK's largest water park, the Great Western Community Forest. At the Cotswolds Conservation Board - responsible for England's largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty - he made major contributions, as an executive board member, to the development of the management plan for the AONB.

Achieving Chartered Environmentalist and Chartered Scientist status as a member of several scientific societies, Peter is now totally independent.

Peter founded ecobody to develop a web based environmental portal with a mission to stimulate thinking on environmental and related socio-political issues for the 21st Century.
